E-2 treaty investor
For nationals of countries with a qualifying treaty who invest a substantial amount in a real US business they direct. Renewable indefinitely, but it is a non-immigrant status and does not itself lead to a green card.
Who it is for. Nationals of treaty countries investing substantially in a US enterprise.
Worth knowing. There is no published minimum investment. The test is that the amount be substantial relative to the cost of the business and more than marginal — consular practice often treats figures around USD 100,000 as a practical floor for a services business, but that is not a rule. Eligibility depends on holding the nationality of a treaty country: notably, nationals of India, China and Brazil are not eligible.
